Method

  • In a large bowl combine the black beans, red pepper, chilli, Black Garlic Paste, peanut butter, miso paste, soy sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, salt and breadcrumbs.
  • Use a potato masher or large fork to mash the bean mixture until it holds together but still has some small pieces of black beans. Taste for seasoning.
  • Add the eggs and stir through until well combined. Add the chopped Black Garlic cloves and stir until evenly distributed.
  • Divide the bean mixture into 6 equal sized pieces.
  • Using wet hands form each piece of bean mixture into a burger the size of the burger bun.
  • Cover and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes, which will help the bean burgers hold their shape.
  • When ready to cook – preheat a griddle pan, non-stick frying pan or barbecue griddle pan to a moderate heat.
  • Brush the pan with liberally with vegetable oil.
  • Place the bean burgers directly onto the oiled pan. Cook without moving until the first side is brown, for approximately 3 – 5 minutes. Flip the bean burgers over and cook the second side for a further 3 – 5 minutes until the bean burgers are cooked through.
  • Then have fun and build your own burger – spread the bun base and top with sauce of your choice. Stack the bun with your choice of toppings. Place the cooked bean burger on top. Skewer to hold the burger masterpiece together.
