  • 450g plain flour<\/li>
  • 2 tsp baking powder<\/li>
  • \u00bd tsp table salt<\/li>
  • 60g unsalted butter \u2013 chilled and diced<\/li>
  • 60g lard \u2013 chilled and diced<\/li>
  • 1 large egg yolk<\/li>
  • 10 cloves Black Garlic<\/b><\/li>
  • 120ml (approx.) ice-cold water<\/li><\/ul><\/div>

    For Butter Shortcrust Pastry<\/b>

    <\/b><\/div>
    • 500g plain flour<\/li>
    • \u00bd tsp table salt<\/li>
    • 250g unsalted butter \u2013 chilled and diced<\/li>
    • 10 cloves Black Garlic<\/b><\/li>
    • 1 large egg – beaten<\/li>

      Method<\/span><\/p>

      Shortcrust Pastry Pie Crust<\/b><\/p>

      • Place the flour, baking powder, salt, butter, lard, egg yolk and Black Garlic cloves into the bowl of a food processor fitted with a blade, pulse until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>
      • Gradually add the ice-cold water a little at a time, pulsing until the mixture forms a smooth but not sticky dough.<\/li>
      • Wrap the pastry in clingfilm and leave to chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.<\/li><\/ul>
        \u00a0<\/div>

        Top Tip: <\/b>the addition of baking powder helps to lighten the texture of the pastry.\u00a0 Chilling the pastry makes it easier to roll.<\/span><\/p>

        Butter Shortcrust Pastry<\/b><\/p>

        • Place the flour, salt, butter and Black Garlic cloves into the bowl a food processor pulse until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.<\/li>
        • Add the egg and pulse until the mixture forms clumps.\u00a0<\/li>
        • Gradually add the ice-cold water 1 tablespoon at a time<\/em>, pulse until the mixture forms a smooth dough.<\/li>
        • Wrap the pastry in clingfilm and leave to chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour.<\/li><\/ul>
